Review: Ultra Street Fighter II- The Final Challengers Fei Long

Street Fighter II is the bestselling fighting game of the 1990s. Its roster of unique playable characters and the six-button layout made it stand out in the arcade and inspired many imitators. Capcom was not content with just riding the game’s popularity.  From 1991 to 1994, there were four versions of SF2 released for the arcade. In 1994, Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers was released and brought four new characters in, including Fei Long. Fei Long is one of the figures in wave 1 of the Ultra Street Fighter II toy line.

Fei Long is an action film star from Hong Kong. He joined the tournament to test his Martial Arts skills against other skilled opponents. He is an homage to Bruce Lee. Fei Long is playable in Super Street Fighter II, Street Fighter IV (home version) and Street Fighter Alpha 3 (home version). He has appeared in tie-in media such as the Udon comics Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie and Street Fighter II V anime series.

Fei Long is an Asian male with black hair. He has a calm but determined look on his face. He is shirtless and wears black pants, black slippers and white socks. The figure is sculpted well and is a good likeness of the character.

For articulation, his head is on a dumbbell joint that runs through the neck allowing movement at the bottom of the head and where the neck meets the body. He has butterfly joints and hinges at the shoulders. He has a bicep swivel, double elbows, and hinged and swivel at the wrists. He has a ball joint mid-torso and a swivel at the waist. His legs are on a T-bar post. He has an upper thigh swivel, double knees, another swivel above the ankles and hinged rocker ankles.

His accessories include an alternate, angry head. He has a set of fists and a set of open hands. Lastly, he has a fire effect that can go over his leg to represent his special attack, the Shienkyaku.

Jada Toys’ Ultra Street Fighter II figures are the best Street Fighter-related toys to come to mass retail. Everything from the sculpt, the paint apps, accessories and the articulation are great. The price point is incredible, too, with figures selling for $29.99 Canadian at Walmart. which, at the current rate, is less than $22.00 US dollars (they retail in the States for $24.99.) With comparable action figures running above $35.99, this line is a great value. Compared to imports, this line is a deal, but sometimes the paint is better on the expensive figures. Those figures could be out of most people’s price range, so the Ultra Street Fighter II line is a better alternative.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Fei Long is on sale now. Check online for details.
