Review: G.I. Joe Classified Series 60th Anniversary Action Sailor – Recon Diver

It is still the 60th Anniversary of the G.I. Joe line. Hasbro has been silent on their G.I. Joe Classified Series Anniversary figures. The Infantry and Recon Diver figures were announced earlier this year, but we haven’t seen any more revealed.  If it goes by the original lineup, we should see an Action Pilot and Action Marine.  Until then, I still have one of the released figures to review, so let’s look at the Action Sailor Recon Diver.

The original Action Sailor wore a standard navy uniform with a white hat. Though the box art had him in a diving suit, it was not included. Hasbro later updated the Action Sailor to include an African American version. Hasbro revisited the Action Sailor in the 1:18 scale, with two versions in diving suits (one black, one orange) for the 30th anniversary in 1994

The Action Sailor Recon Diver is in a black wet suit. He has an African American head with the wet suit hood up on the body. He is wearing dark green web gear and a dark green live preserver on his torso. He has a dark green belt with a knife sheathe attached to it and the right leg. There is also a holster and a place to store a suppressor on the belt. He also has pouches strapped to his left leg.

For articulation, his head is on a dumbbell joint, with unhindered movement up, down, and all around. He has butterfly joints at the shoulders the arms are on ball joints with an upper arm cut, double elbows, rotation at the hands, and a hinge at the wrists. The mid-torso ball joint is covered by the web belt and a waist swivel. The legs are on the drop-down pins with an upper thigh swivel, double knees, a boot swivel, and rocker ankles.

Machine gun with suppressor

For accessories, the Action Sailor comes with a spare Caucasian head. He has a submachine gun with a suppressor, a pistol and a spear gun for weapons. He also has a knife that goes on his right leg. He has a dark green explosives satchel and an air tank backpack. He has a rebreather that is attached to his mask. It plugs into his web belt. There is a navigation board that plugs into the front of the rebreather. Finally, he has a pair of flippers, a submersible scooter and a stand. Like most G.I. Joe Classified figures, you can store most of his skit on the figure.

The Recon Diver is a good figure overall. The figure looks good and the alternate head allow for some army building. I don’t like the mask being attached to the rebreather as it does not allow you to move his head. The inability to have the figure look up enough to be posed swimming is also unfortunate. The Recon Diver will still look good next to Wetsuit and Shipwreck.

Submersible scooter. I have it backwards.

The G.I. Joe Classified Series 60th Anniversary Action Sailor – Recon Diver is out now. Check online for details.
