Double Review: Marvel Legends – Marvel Knights Clea and Blade

Marvel Knights is a line of in-universe superhero stories aimed at a mature audience with more violence and adult language. Heroes in this line include the likes of Daredevil. Power Man, Doctor Strange and Blade. Hasbro has released a wave featuring heroes from the Marvel Knights comic and we will look at two of them; Clea, the current Sorcerer Supreme, and Blade, the vampire hunter.

Starting with Clea, she first appeared in a Doctor Strange story in Strange Tales #126. Niece of the dread Dormammu and heir to the throne of the Dark Dimension, Clea helped Strange against her uncle on multiple occasions. An accomplished sorcerer herself, she and Stephen fell in love and married, but were often separated by their duties. Recently after Stephen died (though he got better) Clea became the new Sorcerer Supreme.

Clea is a humanoid woman with white hair and fair skin. She is wearing a blue and purple suit with a black shirt underneath and a purple sash. Her leggings and boots are black with a purple circle pattern on them. Finally, she has purple gloves.

For articulation, her head is on a dumbbell joint, with movement up, down and to the sides, though her hair does get in the way. Her arms are on ball hinges, with rotation at the single-jointed elbow, rotation at the wrist and hinged hands. She has a mid-torso joint for movement forward, back and to the sides. Her legs are on ball pins with an upper thigh swivel, double knees, and rocker ankles.

For accessories, Clea comes with a set of fists, a set of “throwing up horns” hands and two magic effect pieces. The effect are pliable and can be wrapped around her arms and hands. She las has an arm to the wave’s Build-A-Figure, the Mindless One.

Blade, real name Eric Brooks, is a half-human, half-vampire who first appeared in Marvel’s Tomb of Dracula issue # 10. Infected with vampirism through a vampire feasting on his pregnant mother, Blade was raised to fight vampires and use his powers, such as enhanced strength and slow aging to hunt them down.

Blade is a black male with a flat-top haircut. He is wearing sunglasses and his mouth is in a yelling pose. He has a black sword scabbard on his back. He is wearing black body armour, black pants and black boots. Over that is a black, full-length coat with the sleeve rolled to the elbows and a red inner liner.

Blade’s head is on a hinged ball joint and can rotate and move up and down. His arms are on butterfly shoulders, with an upper arm swivel, double elbows, wrist rotation and hinged hands. On his torso, he has an ab crunch and a waist swivel. His legs are on ball pins at the hips with an upper thigh cut, double knees and hinged ankles.

For accessories, Blade has his sword. It is a dull sliver with a red handle. It fits in the scabbard on his back. He also has two stakes and two of his throwing blades. Blade also comes with a piece of the Mindless One Build-A-Figure; its head and an effect piece.

Both figures are good. A character like Clea doesn’t get a figure often, and it is good they are capitalizing on her importance in the comics. The single elbows are a letdown, but she still looks good. With Blade, I needed a new one as the one I have is the movie Blade from the Toy Biz days. His accessories are great, but I wish they gave him an alternate, non-yelling head. Blade is sure to have his time to shine later this year as there is a vampire-themed event coming up in the comics.

The Marvel Legends Marvel Knights Clea and Blade are out now.
