Review: G.I. Joe Classified Series Retro Carded Scarlett

The G.I. Joe Classified Series Retro Carded figures started as a Walmart exclusive re-releasing past figures in colours and loadouts resembling the classic figures. These figures helped to win over those who did not like some of the modern interpretations and helped others who missed out on the main line release. Hasbro has expanded the Retro Card line to all retailers, and we are getting a figure whose modern interpretation divided some fans. We are finally getting the retro Scarlett we wanted, but is it retro enough?

Scarlett was one of the original 13 figures released in the A Real American Hero line in 1982. The original Classified figure was criticized for having her hair too orange and her face looked too young. The Retro Card line intends to release figures closer to the original versions, with some updates.

Scarlett, as her name suggests, is a redheaded woman. Her hair is pulled back, and she is wearing lipstick. Her outfit is a beige one-piece over a dark gray body suit. She has some red on her right shoulder. She is wearing beiges gloves and boots. She has two throwing stars on the outside of her left glove and a small pistol on her inner wrists. She has a green belt with a quiver on her right hip and a dagger strapped to her left thigh.

Crossbow

Her articulation includes a head on a barbell neck joint. This allows for movement forward, slightly back, tilt to the sides and full rotation around. The arms are on a butterfly joint and a ball hinge. She has a bicep swivel, double elbows and hinged hands with rotation at the wrists. She has mid-torso articulation and a ball joint at the waist. Her legs are on drop-down hips and can move forward, back and out to the side. She has an upper thigh swivel, double knees, rotation at the lower leg and hinged rocker ankles.

Her accessories include her trademark crossbow and four bolts. Each one has a different head on it. The bolts can be stored in the quiver and one can be loaded into the crossbow. She has an M-16 rifle, the XMLR-2 laser rifle from the cartoon and a pistol. All three firearms have a port in the barrel for blast effects. She also has a backpack, the same one as the Cobra Valkyries, that you can store the rifles on. She has two sets of hands: a set of fists and a set of trigger fingers. She also has two ponytails, one straight, and one bent to allow for the backpack, that plug into the back of her head. Finally, she comes with a black figure stand.

Scarlett is a good-looking figure. the head sculpt stands out and I wish the first Classified Scarlett looked more like this. Her outfit is straight out of the original toy line/comics/cartoon, with the addition of the quiver on her hips. While this figure will please purists who want more faithful recreations of the original line, her outfit does stand out. I hope we see another mainline Scarlett with this head, but an updated outfit more like her Renegades look or even the original Classified figure with improved articulation and the futuristic armour bits toned down
